As the Melbourne SEO Guru, I like to be a little different when delivering the ways of Search Engine Optimisation. So to get you all into today’s blog – please enjoy the following “Goat Story” from CNN on YouTube.
And now moving on to the serious stuff.
Did you know about these 4 things you can do to help make google love your blog?
In no order of popularity or excitement:
1) Everybody loves getting a good link from other websites that have great traffic and hold a bit of power with the old ‘page authority’ ranking. We all love a good link, right? So why not spread the love and give a good link out. That gets you a Google tick right there. (And here’s a great link for character counting for point #3)
2) Who doesn’t like talking about themselves? Because blogging for business content on your WordPress site needs a bit of selling every now and then. The main thing to remember here is that 300 plus words will see you get another Google tick.
3) How long is long enough for a piece of string… I mean, page title? (It’s possible I fail this one regularly). You’re aiming to hit between 40 and 70 characters for your page title. Melbourne SEO Guru. That’s not 40. But that’s not a page title – they’re keywords. If you remember 40 to 70 characters for your page title, guess what? Another Google tick.
Just for your information, I’m currently sitting on approximately 248 (more or less due to re-editing since) characters for the blog. And I’m not even on to point 4. It takes some thought if you’re not used to it.
4) Can you see how the keywords “Melbourne SEO Guru” are positioned at the beginning of the blog? Putting your focused keywords in the first paragraph of your copy will… can you guess? Make Google give you a tick!
To recap. Let’s see if I got my 4 Google ticks.
1) A good outbound link – yes!
2) 300+ characters… 328 characters so far – yes!
3) 65 characters for my page title – yes!
4) Focused keywords, Melbourne SEO Guru (can’t help myself) in the first paragraph – yes!
That’s just 4 of plenty of SEO points you need to cover off when blogging with WordPress.
But class is dismissed. You’ll learn more soon… I promise.
